Opening: September 14, 6-8pm

Pamphlet Architecture was founded in 1978 by architects Steven Holl and William Stout to promote the work of emerging architects, often working outside established boundaries of professional practice, exploring theoretical ideas, documenting building and urban and rural building types, and providing manifestos calling for the architectural world to think broader and design deeper. Many of today’s best-known architects were first published in Pamphlet Architecture, including Holl himself, Lebbeus Woods, Zaha Hadid, Lars Lerup, Mark Mack, Livio Dimitriu, and Alberto Sartoris.
In addition to all thirty-six issues of Pamphlet Architecture, the exhibition includes ephemera from the publication’s founding and formative years, including letters and correspondence, announcements, press, and concept texts illustrating the publication’s mission. Displayed on a custom reading table designed by Steven Holl, the installation references the 1980 exhibition Exhibit A, which featured pamphlet proposals and chair designs by Holl, Stout, James Jennings, Mike Metz, James Holl, Anthony Pellechia, Lawrence Rouch, Mark Mack, Lebbeus Woods, Lars Lerup, Livio Dimitriu, and Zaha Hadid.
